Trenching and Backfilling: When trenching for installation, the trench should be graded smoothly, free from stones and soft spots to ensure proper conduit placement. It is essential to use backfill free of stones and to firmly tamp around the sides of the conduit to develop maximum support strength. However, tamping directly on top of the conduit is not recommended to avoid potential damage.

In rocky soil conditions, use selected backfill before laying the conduit, and cover with at least 6 inches of additional backfill before completing the final fill. After the final backfill is placed, tamping can be used to finish the grade. The direct burial method may vary depending on soil, load conditions, and engineering preferences.

Installation Method: For best results, it is common practice to lay the conduit one tier at a time, backfill, and repeat. This allows for desired spacing between ducts during installation. The Type DB-120, with its heavier wall, is often used in duct-to-duct formations for additional protection in lower load conditions, where it has been proven to perform satisfactorily.
