Wire Rope Thimble, Standard Duty G411 — hot dip galvanized steel thimble that forms and protects the eye when wire rope is terminated with clips or a splice.
A wire rope eye bent bare around a pin, shackle or hook kinks the outer wires and crushes the strands under load. The thimble is the grooved steel liner the rope wraps around instead: it holds the eye open to the proper bend radius, spreads the bearing load, and takes the wear that would otherwise go into the rope. Size the thimble to the wire rope diameter, then finish the eye with wire rope clips of the same size, two clips minimum through 3/8". Standard duty is the right grade for guy wire, cable tie-downs and general rigging; for hoisting and heavy service use a heavy duty thimble.
